Easy Shami Kebab Recipe: A Delicious and Flavorful Pakistani Dish

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef or lamb mince
  • 1 cup chana dal (Bengal gram lentils)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste

  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • Water as required
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Bread crumbs


Instructions:

  1. Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hours. Drain the water and add the dal to a pan along with 2 cups of water. Cook on medium heat until the dal is tender and the water has evaporated. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the minced meat, cooked dal, onion, ginger paste, garlic paste, green chilies, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, salt, and 1 tbsp oil. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until a smooth paste is formed. Add water as required to aid the blending process.
  4. Take the blended mixture out in a mixing bowl, add fresh coriander and beaten egg, and mix well.
  5. Now, take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round flat patties (shami kebab). Coat each patty with bread crumbs.
  6. Heat 1-2 tbsp of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the shami kebab and fry until golden brown on both sides. Remove from heat and place on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  7. Serve the shami kebab hot with mint chutney or ketchup.

Tips:

  • You can also use chicken mince instead of beef or lamb.
  • If the mixture is too sticky, add more bread crumbs to make it easier to shape.
  • To make shami kebab in advance, you can freeze the patties and fry them later as needed.
